The King and I

In The King & I, the classic clash of East versus West makes for a dramatic, haunting and ultimately uplifting tale of love, learning and forgiveness. It is 1862 in when Anna, a strong willed British tutor and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, Siam, having been hired by the imperious King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King’s barbaric image, system of governing and ultimately his will are all challenged by Anna’s “modern” ways. While keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King eventually grow to understand and respect one another, in a truly unique love story. Along with the dazzling score, the incomparable Jerome Robbins ballet, "The Small House of Uncle Thomas," is one of the great treasures of the musical stage
