The Magic of YES with the voice of TOTO

YOSO.jpgThe term “Super-Group” can only describe the formation of two of the most creative and musical legendary bands of the past 30 years into the new band YOSO. Formed out of TOTO’s brilliant vocalist Bobby Kimball and the creative force of YES members, Tony Kaye and Billy Sherwood, it does indeed equal the magic of YES with the voice of TOTO. However, YOSO is much more than a combination of two classic rock groups. YOSO has combined their musical talents to produce an album of new music, which comes together with a live CD which sees the band plays some of old and new classics. Their collective mission is to make the next decade one where YOSO’s music will be held up alongside their classic rock backgrounds as a band as important as TOTO and YES.

Bobby Kimball was born in Louisiana and studied to be a medical doctor for five years. However, his true passion was music and he decided give up medical school and move to Los Angeles where he befriended well-known session musicians Jeff Porcaro and David Paich. They realized that Bobby Kimball had extraordinary talent and invited him to join a new band they were putting together called “TOTO”. The first album “TOTO” became an immediate success with “Hold The Line” becoming a standard. Other Grammy-award winning albums followed, with songs like “Rosanna” and “Africa” becoming staples on the radio. Bobby left the band for a period, but was asked to return in 1998, until Toto disbanded in 2009. He decided at that point to start YOSO with Billy Sherwood and Tony Kaye.

Billy Sherwood started his musical journey in the band “Lodgic” on A&M records in 1983. He changed direction and band members to form “World Trade” signing to Polygram Records in 1988. In 1991, he met Chris Squire and Tony Kaye who invited him to become a full member of the classic progressive band YES. He became a driving force for YES for the albums “Union” and “The Ladder”. Billy toured with YES for five years before deciding that his future would be better suited to working with his finest musician friends while going through various incarnations that would ultimately become YOSO.

Tony Kaye was the founding member and main keyboardist of the legendary band YES. Beginning in 1967 with “Time and a Word”, Tony’s keyboard parts and compositions are classic rock history. “Starship Trooper”, “Roundabout” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart’ are just samples of his work with YES. In 2009 he decided to broaden his already illustrious horizons and join Billy Sherwood and Bobby Kimball in the musical adventure called YOSO. YOSO is rounded out with two amazingly gifted musicians: Johnny Bruhns is the guitarist and second vocalist. Scott Conner completes the line-up on drums and percussion.

YOSO does indeed have the magic of YES and the voice of TOTO. However, in 2010 the band intends to convince fans of both bands that the brilliance of YOSO will be just as celebrated in the years to come.
